The first time I met Ms. Jujuana Howard, I knew from her welcoming smile that she had a heart of compassion for helping others. In my first session with Ms. Howard, there written on the whiteboard behind her desk was this quote, “Fear, doubt, and confusion always come when you decide to do something new. Jump and build your wings on the way down!”. Yes, I was jumping into something new, seeking Ms. Howard’s counsel to find a job after a twenty-year career.
As I sat there and cried, she said it was time to let it all out and that I did. She quoted the scripture Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” And from that point on, I felt encouraged knowing that I had a friend who could relate to what I was going through and cared about my wellbeing. In every meeting, she encouraged me, prayed with me and always listened to me.
